Topic: Aspartame - Arthritis and Severe Joint Pain A success story!.........

I want to share what happened to me over the past 8 months from using Splenda .  I began using artificial sweeteners 3 years ago when i wanted to lose some weight and went on the So. Beach diet. The diet worked fine.  I lost the weight i wanted to lose and to maintain it, I continued my daily intake of these tiny yellow packages of "poison", however i never thought of them as that until recently.

I am not a soda drinker so that is not an issue for me, however, i do have to have my 3 cups of coffee every morning or dont come near me! I was proud of the fact that I had learned to convert from normal sugar to artificial sweeteners and bragged that I didnt have any sugar in the house anywhere.  Every day in each cup of coffee, I used three (yes, 3) packets of splenda. A total of NINE packets before 7:30 am.   Then i used Lite diet creamer which also has aspartame in it.  Outside of my coffee intake, every snack i ate was always sugarfree, which meant it had splenda or one of the other sweeteners in it.

I began to notice back aches in Jan of this year everytime i got up from sitting. I work in an office and attributed it to my age, (57) and having a desk job for 25 years. I took ibupropen or motrin  and it seemed to be ok.  but it was short lived.  The pain got worse and extended down my legs, especially around the backs of my knees and on my  shins down to my feet. One morning i went to get out of bed, and the pain was horrendous, i went to my knees, could not stand up at all.  It felt as if both my legs were broken.  I held onto the walls, furniture whatever to get to the bathroom.  I coughed as I used the toilet and the pain shot up and down my legs even more.  Coughing became my biggest fear.  It was time to see a doctor. I went and explained the entire problem. He called for an MRI.  The results showed some moderate to severe arthritis in the L4 and L5 area of my lower spine.  He said, you have spinal stenosis or arthritis as it is more commonly known.  He gave me 10 mg Lortabs which are knock out pills for me, but they took the pain away leaving me in a stupor.  These only worked for about 2 months, I went back.  The doctor sent me to an orthopedic specialist who read the MRI and started me on muscle relaxers, PLUS 800 mgs of Ibupropen twice a day. He also scheduled me for the first of 4 spinal epidural injections over the next 3 months.  They would work fine (and also are very expensive even with my insurance) and i would be pain free for about 2-3 weeks tops. A month ago, i had my fourth epidural and was told i could not have any more because these shots utilize cortizone steroids to numb the nerves in the spinal column and can cause further damage if used in excess.  The next step would be surgery and i was given an appt for Jan of 2010 to discuss what type of surgery would be the best for me.

Somehow, and I dont have an explanation, I had this feeling that there was something else wrong.  The pain was just not the same from day to day, it would move, it would change in its intensity, some days it would go away without medication, other days nothing helped, i would sit and cry from pain, it was relentless.  Every morning I would open my eyes and wait for the pain that was always the worst from being still while sleeping.  I got on my computer and typed "arthritis and leg pain". Many articles came up, all about the same, but i hit on  one about Aspartame and other artificial sweeteners. I began to read and my mouth dropped.  It was as if I had written the article myself.  And yes, it was THIS website by  Dr. Janet Hull.  Someone had written on the forum about her legs giving her probs and that she had stopped all artificial sweeteners and it worked.  I just sat and stared at it. Then I went and found every single Splenda packet and anything else in the cupboards and threw them in the trash.  The next cup of coffee i drank had a small amount of normal old cane sugar in it and regular creamer. Within 24 hours, my pain started to slow up, not much, but some. Within a week, it slowed down ALOT.  I did not need any prescription pain killers or muscle relaxers at all. Just a few aspirin.  It has now been 18 days, and I am completely pain free! I dont even need a baby aspirin. NOTHING..... I waited to write this letter to be sure I would have my facts straight and that it wasnt just a temporary fix or some coincidence.  Its not, I dont have ANY MORE PAIN ANYWHERE AT ALL.  I cannot say enough about what this stuff does and how dangerous and harmful it can be. It should be taken off the market, banned, tossed out!  I realize now that I slowly and daily poisoned myself with high doses of this garbage.  I doubt very seriously that my orthopedic doctor will even entertain my proclamation when i go to him in January, and I AM GOING! I am going to tell him what i did, how it turned out, and to tell him thanks for everything, but i dont need him anymore.  If anyone wants to write to me with any questions, I will be glad to answer.  I know how it feels.  I hope I can help other people who are suffering unknowingly and let them know their relief just may be close at hand and as simple as NO MORE ASPARTAME! There are other causes for arthritis, I know, and I know this may not work for everyone who suffers from it, however, Im hoping that since I tried it from reading what another person wrote to this forum and it worked, it may work for others.

It really gripes me that people like you and me have to struggle and suffer to figure out Aspartame is toxic. But then I realize our capitalistic system is all about profit and not health. In fact, if you read the Wikipedia page on Aspartame it reads like corporate propaganda, which is one reason I refuse to support Wikipedia any more.

As a convert, each of us as is responsible for preaching the gospel, so please freely tell everyone. Most people just have marginal symptoms, and it may not even occur to them they are slowly poisoning themselves. I am glad for your recovery.

I agree with all you have said. There is some hope of changing our fatal future concerning this issue - we need to continue getting the truth out, and supporting each other. Individuals can get well by avoiding all these fake foods and by shaming the people who allow it to continue poisoning the masses. One by one, each person can make a difference by simply not buying this poison and paying the truth forward.

when using a capsule or pill form of glucosamine products can take between 6 and 10 weeks to notice little or any relief.Synflex liquid glucosamine can deliver relief and healing in as little as 7 to 10 days. Imagine reducing pain and regaining your mobility in your joints with glucosamine faster, more effectively, and at a low per day cost in a simple once per day dose!

A liquid or powdered form of nutrients is always a more efficient way to ingest supplements, no doubt. Less digesting.

Re: Aspartame - Arthritis and Severe Joint Pain A success story!.........

It may be coincidence, but since I have tossed out all the artificial stuff, the leg pains I have suffered with for years and years has disappeared. I slept in the same position all night the past 2 nights. Normally I had to turn over every half hour or so because the cramp like pains in my legs would wake me.
So you sure have my attention...
Thank you

Re: Aspartame - Arthritis and Severe Joint Pain A success story!.........

yorkymoma - that's no coincidence! I had severe shooting pains up my right leg when using aspartame. I've never had one since I stopped it 20 years ago. Interestingly, men complain of sore feet first thing out of bed in the morning, and that goes away with the aspartame. Now that you are aspartame free, I doubt you'll suffer with those leg pains again.

I quit aspartame, and Splenda, about 4 years ago and haven't touched it since. I haven't had a migraine headache in 4 years, either. What does that tell you?

The diet sweeteners were definitely the cause of my old migraines.

Re: Aspartame - Arthritis and Severe Joint Pain A success story!.........

It is too easy to prove aspartame causes migraines. Simply stop using aspartame and see how many migraines you get.

Now, aspartame doesn't cause every migraine on the planet, but since aspartame came on the market 30 years ago, migraines are now epidemic, and people who never had one before, never have another migraine once aspartame is stopped.

I agree. I don't sweeten anything because natural foods are naturally sweet! And I don't eat cookies, cakes, or anything like that anyway.

Re: Aspartame - Arthritis and Severe Joint Pain A success story!.........

How I thank God for this forum! I am not losing my mind. I knew aspartame gave me problems = about 5 years ago -- lots of pain in hands - no strength - and extreme fatigue.I was only 38.  I gave up my diet sodas and drank water; things were better. Recently -- I got serious about dieting again -and i made sure i didnt get anything with aspartame in it -- I didnt want to repeat the problems I had in the past.  I noticed lately - those old pains are back -- and worse. Somedays I can barely stand -- my legs and feet hurt. My hands dont want to grasp -- I am tired and I am not losing weight -- I was planning on going to the doctor tomorrow -- something has to be wrong! Then a brain storm - I know it must have been God -- because I looked up the ingredients in the diet drinks that i have been drinking -- they have artificial sweetners in them!! -- not aspartame but the same type of poison! No wonder why I am in so much pain! I am glad I found this out -- and this site has given me hope that these pains will go away!!!  I read the other symptoms these sweetners can cause -- I have quite a few -- dry eyes, pain - like arthritis -- weakness -- mood swings --- anxiety -- fatigue -- menstrual problems ----I am throwing all of these drinks away and other items in the pantry that say sugar free and lite!!! --- i will diet by watching my portions -- and eating healthy fresh food!!!  I just want to warn everyone ---

Re: Aspartame - Arthritis and Severe Joint Pain A success story!.........

You are definitely reacting to fake food chemicals - no food chemicals are healthy, but those diet chemicals sneak into everything. Try to keep this program up so you can handle this before you have to spend time and money at the doctor. Detox and take some healthy vitamins to restore the nutrients diet chemical deplete from your health.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Thank God I found this forum I am having a lot of pain and numbness in  the center of my brain and neck and lower legs started out with restless leg and than pain would be in center of back now it is nerve pressure and pain (the leg syndrome is not like others describe not even close but I have to keep moving) I was also taking Ambien and in April I could not go to sleep as I would lay down and drift off and would jerk awake, Than I could not concentrate and when I thought about something my brain would try to dechipher  it to death wont let up and than when thinking a strong feeling of despair would come on and pressure in chest and not being able to breathe or go into a dark room and crying when ever this feeling hit   I have stopped diet sodas and I still have pain and the tingling has subsided a bit but that could be from chiropractor but after about three to four days ago everything seemed to go away but came back this week and I have not had any diet soda til last night and I thought splenda was safe but it is not but thats not what brought it back, I am not sure what is bringing it on this time I been eating more fruit and trying to stay away from a lot of bread . Anyone going thru this or similar please email me and maybe we can identify the food or drink I am seriously scared as I am not sleeping unless i take a generic of benydryl

Well, you are doing the right thing by cutting out the toxins. This is the only way to determine WHICH toxin is THE toxin causing this spiral downward. I suggest doing the hair analysis to determine what's going on. Stop guessing at something this serious, and find out what nutrients have been depleted and what other toxins may still be present. Go to http://www.hairanalysisprogram.com/ and let's see if we can get to the bottom of this.
