Re: Q & A with Dr. Hull - January 2010
Has anyone experienced problems with one's throat related to the use of Splenda?
I have used Splenda for 2-3 years. In August I had a throat absess which resulted in a trip to the hospital. Then again in November, I had another episode and ended up in the Emergency Room. Two weeks ago, I started to get another one. My doctor is also checking my thyroid and I have had two ultrasounds. I have blamed some of my problems on my TMJ, but more symptoms are developing. For instance, I have had a sore on my tongue that comes and goes.
The initial symptoms are an earache and then it proceeds to a sore throat. I also have sinus issues at the same time.
Interestingly enough, I stopped using Splenda three days ago. The sore on my tongue has disappeared. My throat issues are also subsiding.
I would appreciate any comments/advice. My doctor has been diligent when the ENT Specialist has not. She also considers alternate medicine practices in treatment.

Re: Q & A with Dr. Hull - January 2010
bdh - many people complain of ear, nose and throat irritation from the chlorine in Splenda. This isn't surprising because reactions to Splenda mock reactions to harsh chlorine. Have you ever cleaned your bathroom with bleach and had a raw throat and nose after using the bleach? There you have it.
Avoid all Splenda and the other diet chemicals, gargle with salt water, and see if this doesn't completely clear up and go away in a few weeks.
You might consider some yeast may be present in the mouth and throat, as well. Research Candida and see if this might be an issue. The diet chemicals will only make any yeast worse.
