Detox newbie

Hi Dr. Hull!  I need to detox--drink diet Pepsi-at least 4-6 cans a day for about 20 years--can I quit cold turkey?  I previously drank water like a champ--100 oz or more.  Got sucked in to the post diet soda caffiene boost.  Diagnosed w/depression & anxiety about 6-8 mos after starting the diet soda.  Also notice weight gain, migraines, sinus trouble, joint achiness, loss of libido, pelvic pain.  Thanks for starting this site and forum.

Re: Detox newbie

Thanks for your post, and yes, you can kick this diet junk cold-turkey. Ride out the first couple of weeks before things get better; your life begins to come back on about 5-7 days. You'll have some withdrawals and probably some bad headaches the first week, but after that, you'll feel better and better each day. You'll sleep better, the weight will come off, and you will begin to return to your former self.

Hang in there. Take a good multivitamin, too. The diet chemicals rob your body of real nutrients, so put them back in and you'll recover quicker.
