Re: Q & A with Dr. Hull - January 2009

Hi Dr. Hull;
With the various detox programs you have and your 'Tummy' subject this month; wouldn't it be prudent to discuss the whole Gastrointestinal System.
With literally trillions of active bacteria in each and everyone's gut this is the most populated ecosystem there is.
I would think that a lot of attention should be paid to this subject even though many or most plainly don't like to talk about its' significant importance for various reasons.
As a health practicioner I hope you tackle this subject as millions of people are affected by problems of the gut. From probiotics to proton pump inhibitors and everything in between...this subject needs to be discussed on an ongoing basis.
          Thanks; Kev...Canada

Re: Q & A with Dr. Hull - January 2009

Hi Dr. Hull. I am really hooked on diet dr.pepper and I really did not know all the things they could do to you. I feel bad and very tired all the time. My lower back and legs hurt much of the time and so do a lot of the joints. I drink quiet a few of them a day. I stay ill. Some times I think I might be crazy. I really hate to tell the doctor how I feel because I think some time they think you are just after medicine. Believe it or not some times I really cannot function like I should. I forget all the time where I put something. I realize I am 53 but that is not old. Please give me some infomation on this. I also stay hungry and cannot get full and I am over weight not to the extreame but I am over weight. I know I am headed for trouble. Thank you Pam Hunter from NC

Re: Q & A with Dr. Hull - January 2009

BigHar (Pam). Know that your concerns and that your health issues are not happening to just you. So many people are fighting these same sort of issues, and the lifestyle we have adopted in our wonderful country only exacerbates our over-eating and lack of exercise.  Sometimes I just crave silence so I can wind down my mind, and I mean to really wind down. Every day is a rush to still be behind, it seems, and kids today are being raised in such a fast-paced world, how they can find their balance is even more a challenge.

So, that said, try to slow down a bit, reevaluate what you are eating and drinking every day, how much sleep are you getting, what are your daily demands, etc? Then, piece by piece, begin to replace what is not healthy for you with the things that are. Eventually, you will have redesigned your daily routine, and hopefully for the better.

You are right, 53 is still very young in today's world, VERY YOUNG, so make sure that you are in charge of the rest of your life, and not the other way around. Make changes, if need be - relocate, change jobs, whatever you can do to be happy and not have to work and struggle to enjoy your life. Life should be good without too much effort. We are products of our environments - if you are not happy and struggle with weight or health issues, then look at your total environment to see what you can change. See if this brings you peace and joy.

Re: Q & A with Dr. Hull - January 2009

Dear Dr. Hull
First of all, let me say that I'm fascinated with your site! I'm so thankful that I found you! My name is Dennise. I was on acne antibiotics for 5-7 years... (my dermatologist prescribed Bactrim Double Strength twice a day , because it was a lower chance of having acid reflux and I'm an opera singer so that was a must) I stopped taking them back in October 2008... as I thought I was experiencing "chapped lips" but it progressively turned for the worse after 4 weeks, and I decided to go to my doc. She cultured it and it was yeast... It was around my lips... the strange part is, I never had a yeast infection "down below"... she prescribed Diflucan.. and I took it for 14 days and then after that once a week to slowly get off of the medication. I am so happy that I did because I was so worried about it bothering my liver... as the side effects I read were very scary. Since October 19, I have lost 60 lbs because I have been on the candida diet... I never knew that candida could cause so many problems ... but after reading the symptoms, I had all of them... Irregular menstrual cycles, really bad sinuses... (which is a complete nightmare for a performer!) and everytime I would go to the doc they would think it was just a sinus infection and give me more medicine... so who knows how long I have really had this candida problem... Things are really back on track now... I feel better than ever ... have more energy... but I have been drinking diet soda and I think it made me develop a skin rash on my neck... It went away after I stopped drinking diet soda but then as soon as I ate something with aspartame ... it started making me break out into what looks like hives... so after reading your info on diet sweetners, I will definitely stay away from them!!! for good! I am wondering though, how long can candida last? since the doc doesn't know how long it really has been going on ... (i.e. my sinus problems, and menstrual stuff... ) Will it take 6 months or longer?? and I was also wondering what you thought about Diflucan...? Is it good that I want to stay off of it and turn to vitamins and more holistic candida cleansing? I would love to have your advice...  I have been on a strict diet of veggies and fresh lean meat... and no fruit or vinegar, yeast, sugar, or wheat... (I even started buying rice pasta) since Oct.. it's been a real struggle but I have never felt better! or looked better for that matter!!! Thank you for all that you do!
Hope you can write back!
Sincerely, Dennise

Re: Q & A with Dr. Hull - January 2009

kinberc - kelp feeds the thyroid and the hormonal system, and niacin keeps the blood clean of toxins and fats. If you need to support your body in both areas, then continue using both in lower maintenance doses on a regualr basis, say 5 times a week, to secure long term health. That's what I do.

garcia123 - this is what the forum is all about. Many times when toxins are the cause of disease, and your traditional doc can't understand this, it is nice to chat with others in the same boat so that you do not feel that you are alone in your beliefs, or that you are cray, as many docs can make you feel sometimes.

operasoprano - you go girl!!! Your experiences with toxins aging you and dragging you down are REAL. Once these fake food, toxic nightmares are removed from your life, and you begin to take control again - well, you become the person you are meant to be. And that sounds pretty nice!
