Topic: Sucralose is E955

Hi
Just found this site.  Keep up with the good work.  I did have a phase of using Splenda a few years ago, I (happily) don't recall any nasty side effects (but perhaps that is one), however it wasn't long after this they I developed IBS BUT I have to be honest and say i was under a terrific amount of pressure/stress at this time.  I do try and avoid artificial sweetners at all cost, as well as food with numbers in, especially in anything my son will eat - he was badly affected by the colouring in Smarties.  I have just been shocked to find out the E955 is sucralose (Splenda not advertised anywhere on the packet, it was a Weight Watchers dessert a friend was making).  I think it is disgraceful that "they" are hiding behind numbers yet again.  I am sorry for my ignorance but I do not know if you use E numbers in food in the USA, but as I couldn't find a reference to E955 on here I wanted to post in case anyone from the EU is researching and isn't aware of this.
Kind regards
MM

Re: Sucralose is E955

We do not have the same labeling system in the states, but they all use whatever they can to disguise the truth. It is shameful. And then the companies, and government agencies, make the consumer feel like the fool for questioning them. All along, we are right, and they are wrong, but it gets us nowhere.

We have to simply share what we know with one another, help one person at a time, and stop buying these products. If they don't make money, they'll find something they can profit from. Companies would sell cow dung if it made them a profit; they'd tell you it is good for you, mark it as CD 154, and tell you it's the latest fad. Most people would buy into it if it made them lose weight, stay young and sexy- hey they did it with fake sweeteners.

Re: Sucralose is E955

is sucralose used in medifast shakes good for u and acesulfame used in momentum to boosts metabolism while decreasing appetite good for you???????

Re: Sucralose is E955

Dr. Hull doesn't advocate artificial sweeteners and feels they are bad for you.

Re: Sucralose is E955

My life's work is based on the dangers of the chemical, artificial sweeteners. Welcome to our world and to our sites.

Keep doing your research; you'll read both sides of this issue. But you are intelligent enough to see through the marketing as opposed to true natural health.

Re: Sucralose is E955

I need 2 watch my bloood sugar. what is left for me water!

Re: Sucralose is E955

That's NOT what's left for you - THAT'S WAS STARTED FOR YOU. All animals survive on water to hydrate their bodies. Humans are the only animals who choose pleasure as opposed to natural processes that secure health.

You can enjoy a cup or two of good, organic coffee. You can enjoy a quality glass of wine or a micro-brewed beer. You do not have to deny the pleasures we human can have, but do so as an occasional, but very minimal, treat.

Yes, drink water, water, water, and then the treats will be just that, a treat.

You must admit that drinking water as your primary and daily drink makes you feel better. You have more energy, you sleep better, you flush out body toxins, and you aren't as hungry and your weight will remain stable. Now, I'll take that as a result of drinking mostly water, any day!

Re: Sucralose is E955

Hi- very excited to find this site.  It's great that people are coming together with the same beliefs that the american food industry is making money while we get sick. I believe in all natural , no chemical food.  Dr hull, it;s awesome to see a doctor dedicated to health and nutrition....i'm a dental hygienist and i have more knowledge and actual course hours in nutrition than my own primary care physician!!!     i think the last person who asked about the water meant he needs to keep his blood sugar in check-what other sweeteners (all natural) can he use for treats/coffee that won't have an impact on his glucose levels as much as sugar????:)

Re: Sucralose is E955

The best thing to do is try not to use any added extra sweetness, at all. If you can retrain your palate to be satisfied with the natural sugars in quality foods and drinks, then you can go without adding anything sweet.

I use the sweetness in organic half & half in coffee and add no sweetness. I put peppermint flavored chlorophyll in my water jug and drink refreshing room-temp water all day long. I have a glass of a natural juice (not from concentrate) every day. And every now and again, I'll have an old-fashioned coke in the glass bottle from Mexico where they still use pure cane sugar.

Stevia (NuStevia is great) is a good product, agave nectar (all natural) is good, put Succanat in the sugar bowl (unprocessed cane sugar), the pink packet is safe (yes, it is no longer labeled unsafe) if you must pick a colored packet when eating out. These are some good, tasty, and safe complex sugar choices.

Re: Sucralose is E955

I stopped using all sugars, and I have not craved them at all. It's like adding extra salt; I stopped that, too, and I'm fine with it. How did we wind up adding all this extra stuff, anyway?  When you go eat out, they add salt and sugar to the meals, anyway. Just don't add extra and you'll learn you don't need to.

Re: Sucralose is E955

I just happened upon this web site, and I am so glad that I did! I was using Aspartame products for years, until I switcjed to Slenda about 5 yrs ago. I was under the impression that it was totally safe because it was "made from real sugar". The aspartame nearly ruined my quality of life at the age of 40. When I stopped using it, the Lupus symptoms, arthritis, stomach problems, high blood pressure, all went away within a month of stopping the aspartame. No more pain, or pills! Amazing! Then I was told by my Dr to try Splenda. I have been using it all this time, and everything seemed fine until about a yr ago. I have been noticing some of the ill effects coming back slowly. The arthritis, and the high blood pressure are back. I am 52 yrs old, 5' 2", and 130 pounds. I eat well, and get plenty of exercise. I drink coffee every day with a packet of Splenda in each cup, usually 2 or 3 cups a day. Is it the Splenda or am I just getting old?

Re: Sucralose is E955

It is the Splenda, and the other sweeteners Splenda is found blended with.

You are NOT getting old - aging is a very relative concept when you are young at heart, happy, and healthy. Time does NOT exist to any other animals - just humans. Take down the mirrors, don't wear the watches and move the clocks - learn to LIVE to your hearts desires, and celebrate every day to the fullest. When you do this, and throw away all of man's manufactured, fake foods, you will feel better, sleep better, laugh more, and slow down the aging process!

I don't trust anything man makes as food - nature is the only creator of nutrition in my book.

Re: Sucralose is E955

Oh yea, it's the Splenda. Splenda burns my kidneys and bladder so bad. I can tell when I've gotten into some; I hurt at my kidneys every time!

Splenda really stirs up my IBS, too.

Re: Sucralose is E955

May i say that i have to control my blood glucose as well and my specialist always tells me don't try and have extra sugar when i can help it. Sweeteners are my best alternative as i will not have water on its own (I have tried before) and i happen to be perfectly fine with the sweetners.

Re: Sucralose is E955

As with anything, choose the most natural and less manufactured form of anything you eat, drink, or put on your body. There are several great choices for sweetener alternatives that have less chemicals added to them, and may be less expensive, too.

NuStevia is great, the pink pack is fine and always has been; the cancer warning has been removed. Agave nectar is good, too. Just make more classy choices, and treat your blood sugar to the best you can offer it.
