Are there health risks for stopping diet sodas suddenly??

I have been drinking diet sodas for about 20 years.  I have recently stopped drinking them and am now on week 3 of being diet soda free!  I am having some health issues now and am wondering what could be the cause of them and if it's related to stopping the sodas.  I am suffering from hives, rashes, and occasional blurred vision.  I am working with the doctors but have had little success determing the cause.  I am having to wait for an appointment with a allergist.  I've been trying to research this myself. I am so thankful I found your site today.  Any advice or insite would be greatly appreciated!!!  I am so  miserable.

hufpak - before you go through the reams of allergy testing, consider yeast (Candida) at the root of this. Look Candida up on the web and follow the detox and diet recommendations offered in the many great posts. Caprylic Acid is good for yeast, so try this first.  Then, remember that a chemical diet not only feeds yeast, but depletes your body of essential nutrients, so get on a good vitamin program. Detoxing helps, too. So does having the hair analysis done to see what else may be inside your body.

Detoxing from aspartame is a process that your body deserves to do in order to repair the damage caused by nasty, nasty chemicals.

Re: Are there health risks for stopping diet sodas suddenly??

matt9914 - stopping aspartame and the diet chemicals creates a different "withdrawal" in different people. Some people feel immediately better when the toxins are gone; they lose weight, sleep better, have instant energy, their moods return to normal, and they just feel super. Then, there are some people who have a tendency to have addictions, like to alcohol or drugs, because they may be hypoglycemic or under stress at work or home. This creates a need for some extra chemical boosts, and drinking colas is a pacifying thing. Diet colas are a trap because the marketers have convinced you that you can have all you want with no penalty. That is not true; it makes you more dependent on that pacifier.

So, physically, there can be an addiction. Emotionally, there can be an addiction. Or, maybe your body will sing your praises immediately for stopping the toxic chemicals, and feel super right off the bat.
