Topic: Splenda is my higher power ...

Hi all,

A little about me and sorry to ramble. I'm 55 yo male and I first tried Splenda several years ago in ice tea with lemon. Today ... that is all I drink ... all day long. It's become my drug of choice. How do I know this? I am a recovering narcotics addict and have maybe 17 yrs sobriety. I occaisionally have a glass of wine socially and never any pain killers, etc. What's this got to do with Splenda ... everything. Because I know I'm hooked. When I use Splenda I put 4 to 5 heaping large spoonfuls of it in every ice tea. Then squeeze in a fresh lemon and I'm off to the races ... good to go. This madness goes on every day 3 to 4 times a day. It reminds me of my addiction days and now I'm begining to see the forest thru the trees. This shit is controling my life! In the last 2 or 3 years I have been struggling with ED. My sex life is so bad. Viagra, etc just barely helps. My libido is down. I have had my testosterone checked out and it's low but ok. I'm becoming convinced Splenda is at work here. After all kinds of reading articles and posts about it I already know there are concerns about it's health impact. Does anyone else have this problem. It's got me really down. I'm going to have to try and 12 step this 'drug' and honestly I think it's going to be a real challenge. I love this stuff! But I want my body to go back to 'normal'. I'm fearful it never really will. Has anyone ever gone thru this and did u make it back to better sexual and physical health? Thanks for listening ...

Yes, what you're going through is very real. Diet sweeteners are just as additive as drugs or alcohol because they are an unnatural chemical added to food and drinks to trick your body into thinking something that isn't real. Hence, your body gets "programed" to read that signal, and this results in an unnatural dependency. Body imbalances just spiral off one another.

Research within yourself WHY you feel you need these chemicals and why you need to select a sugar-free product as opposed to one that is natural, with natural sugars and ingredients. This issue, as you have already identified, is an emotional one that has placed your body into physical dependency. The key is to balance the emotional needs and then health will be the by-product.
